Shiftmate
What do shift codes mean? Examples of OFF, S, A, G, I and R
Guide to standardize OFF, morning, evening, night, leave and report codes used in the shift schedule.
Shift codes are practical because they are short; However, if there is no description and time dictionary, the employee and the manager may interpret the same code differently.
Link working codes with watch
Write clearly the start and end time of codes such as S for morning, A for evening and G for night in the code table. Just using letters is not enough for timesheet calculation.
Set aside non-working days
OFF, annual leave, medical report and excused leave are not the same thing. Separate codes improve both plan and reporting quality.
Make code changes controlled
If the time equivalent of a code changes, comparison with the past period may be affected. Note the date of change and the new meaning.
Summary
A good code dictionary is a concise, single-meaning, timely operational standard.
