How to handle night shift and 45 hour weekly check?
Business manager's guide to accurately checking net hours, breaks and weekly totals for shifts exceeding midnight.
During the night shift, the check-out time looks smaller than the check-in time. Simple Excel subtraction can calculate this shift as negative and distort the weekly total.
Get to know the midnight crossing
If the start is 22:00 and the finish is 06:00, the finish is the next day. In this case, the calculation formula must add one day to the end.
Think of the break as the exact duration
Subtract the recorded break minutes from the gross time. If the break is left blank, the net working time may appear higher than necessary.
Get total by employee and week
The daily check shows the long shift and the weekly total shows the accumulated load. Keeping the same employee in different files can hide the 45 hour signal.
